Christian Counseling
for Nolensville, Franklin, Brentwood, & Middle Tennessee
Anchor Creek works with individuals, couples, families, and teens across Middle Tennessee, meeting both in person in Nolensville and virtually. We integrate faith into our approach, remaining research-informed while grounded in Christian principles.
"We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure."
Hebrews 6:19
Do I Have to Choose?
Most people looking for a Christian counselor are worried about one of two things.
The first concern is that "Christian counseling" means someone hands you a verse instead of help. That you'll describe a panic attack and be told to pray harder, or that you'll describe marriage issues and receive a biased lecture, not a plan.
The second worry is the opposite: That a licensed therapist won't take your faith seriously and dismiss the important role it plays in your life.
Faith and clinical care aren't competing options.

CHRISTIAN COUNSELING AT ANCHOR CREEK
Kevin Vaughn, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), and Luis Segarra, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), use evidence-based clinical approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Trauma-Informed Care.
We're clinicians who provide compassionate, professional counseling.
And we're Christians who confidently believe that God has a purpose for you.

"Come as you are."
You don't have to be in a good place with God before coming to counseling. If no one has said this to you before, it's okay if you're angry at Him right now. Everyone comes in at different stages of grief, with different burdens, and in varying seasons of faith.
Practically, this means that integrating faith into sessions looks different for everyone. It can mean:
-
Praying together, if that's something you want
-
Talking honestly about what Scripture does and doesn't say about what you're carrying
-
Working through guilt or shame without confusing conviction with condemnation
-
Naming the difference between what God asks of you and what a person, a family, or a church has asked of you
-
Sitting with the hard questions: "Why did this happen?" "Where was God in it?"
Who We Are
Luis and Kevin both bring experience providing counseling services in local churches in various capacities and providing counseling care for ministry leaders.
IS THIS BIBLICAL COUNSELING?
We get asked this question frequently. While people often use "Biblical" and "Christian" counseling interchangeably, they describe different kinds of care and serve different needs. We've created a comparison chart to help.
BIBLICAL COUNSELING
-
Provided by pastors, elders, and trained lay counselors, often certified through a ministry body
-
Grounded in theological study and supervised ministry counseling. Accountable to a church or certifying ministry.
-
Uses Scripture as the sufficient guide, with prayer, biblical teaching, and application between sessions
-
Approaches secular psychology with caution, holding that Scripture is complete for matters of the soul
-
Focuses on spiritual growth, repentance, obedience, and discipleship
-
Does not (and should not) diagnose, and may refer out for medical or psychiatric care
-
Confidentiality is governed by the church or ministry's own policy
-
Often free or donation-based, offered as a ministry
A good fit when you want Scripture to be the primary lens for the work, within the life of a church.
CHRISTIAN COUNSELING
-
Provided by state-licensed clinicians who are both Christians and credentialed as LPC, LMFT, LCSW, or psychologists
-
Requires a graduate degree, supervised clinical hours, and continuing education. Accountable to a state licensing board.
-
Uses clinical models such as CBT, ACT, and trauma-informed care
-
Holds that all truth is God's truth, including what research uncovers
-
Diagnoses conditions such as anxiety, depression, and PTSD alongside relational and spiritual concerns
-
Can diagnose and treat, and coordinate with physicians and psychiatrists when useful
-
Confidentiality is governed by state law and HIPAA
-
Fee-for-service, sometimes eligible for insurance or out-of-network reimbursement
A good fit when you want professional support from someone who shares your faith and will engage it.
